Egyptian Car Project - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwSGdCW_398
First egyptian brand family of cars that would compete with the leading brands.
It is not vital that all the components are sourced locally, what is more important is for the establishment to be Egyptian. The design and assembly would be done locally with the aid of international advisors, designers and specialists. The Car can be a pickup truck or a sedan, whatever has a better success rate. A good idea would be a 4 seat pickup truck. It would serve as a car for the family at the same time it would be used as a truck for commerical purposes. See image below for an example of the 4 seat pick-up truck.
The political will is imperative and laws would be customized for this national project. There are 16 assembly plants today in Egypt, but none of them are equipped to the required level or scale. What is needed is a state of the art assembly plant(s) established to the needed scale. But it may be the first phase if the project would lease or outsource the assembly of the cars.
The cost of the proposed car will be much lower than the imported brands to promote the car domestically and internationally.
If government mandates purchasing the Egyptian brand for governmental use and police force, the project cost will be covered within one
year of inception. After the first year the project will produce national revenue estimated at $1 Billion.
The goal would be to export 1 Million cars annualy after a few years of establishment, therefore would yield $10 Billion ($10,000 sale price x 1 Million units). The average economic car on avarage costs $6000 to produce. The cost of the car will go toward domestic parts as well as imported parts.
How to do it?
It would be up to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to start an incubator/start up company comprising 20-30 professionals. This company will be responsible for design of the car and establish the parts needed from worldwide vendors. The parts would be imported (preferably from Africa if such feeder companies exist) as well as domestic and would go to the participating plants for assembly.
Distribuution?
The Ministry of Industry and trade would create dealerships throughout Africa and the Middle East to distribute the Car. The company would either lease or
purchase/build the dealership in partnerships with local businessmen.
